This Christmas (2007)

Whenever I watch Christmas movies I always feel under-represented. I have a big family and we are all a mess - usually. While we would kill for each other, we all drive each other insane. So when I watch these movies where there is a perfect family I get annoyed- that is not the reality of most families. This Christmas is much more accurate to what my family looks like during the holidays than any other Christmas movie.

When Ma’Dere (played by Loretta Devine) hosts her annual Christmas party with her children, not all show-up, but this Christmas is the first Christmas the entire family is together in 4 years, bring in serious family drama.

Again, I definitely felt like this was a better representation of what my family looks like during the holidays. Everyone together helping each other through struggles that only your family could help you with. This movie is more for adults than for children making it a different type of Christmas movie, but it really does give the insight of what families go through during the holidays.

This movie had a star-studded cast with Regina King playing the sister whose husband is a lying asshole. Columbus Short playing the brother that went into the military and ended up marrying a white woman and being scared to disappoint his family. Idris Elba playing the brother that followed his dream to be a saxophone player but getting into quite some trouble along the way. Chris Brown playing the youngest brother who has an incredible voice but is forced to hide it from his mother(He was so handsome during this time!). Sharon Leal playing the sister that ran away from the family and never looked back and Lauren London playing the sister who went off to college. Tying up this entire movie with Loretta Devine playing the mother of the entire family and Delroy Lindo playing the father figure of them all.

This really was a great movie. It showed the raw feels of family. The actors were all great and all had great chemistry with each other. I forgot how cute Chris Brown was - you know, prior to the whole Rihanna incident. Everyone's acting was on point. Also, this movie must have thrown out a hell of a soundtrack, Chris alone sang two amazing songs.

This Christmas has touches of humor and heartbreak. It was one of those movies you want to go hug your mom once you're done watching it.

There were about 5 people who recommended I watch this movie. Which is why I took the time to make it a part of my 12 days of Christmas. Great choice! Great Actors! Great recommendation!

The best part of this movie: The line dance at the end of the movie!

7 hot hams and collard greens of 10
